HL2 save games disappearing

Is there a limit to "save games"?

I have saved often all the way, but when I looked through the list now
all before "Revenholm" are gone :-(

Is there a setting for this somewhere?

It's a problem w/ HL2, same as HL1. You have a limited # of save slots,
so when you save a game the oldest save disapears.

However, once you reach a chapter, it is unlocked, and you can start from
the beginning of any given chapter once unlocked.

Seems like all the save games are on the disk (checked the snapshot
images). They are just not shown in the select list for "load game".

What's the limit? I have 64 saves in HL2, 78 saves in HL1 - no sign of a save
limit in either game yet.

You're not talking about quick-saves and auto-saves, are you? The limit is
somewhat smaller with those (two of each)
