A handful of Macromedia applications copy or create some files in the
current user's %temp% folder and then attempt to CreateProcess() those.
Things like "~mrt244.tmp" and so on. Normally you can even see these things
running in Task Manager.
Now I'm used to seeing such artifacts when installing packages created with
Windows Installer, but not with the normal running of an application. How
many other apps try to do this?
The problem cropped up when I tried to set up MM Contribute 2 today. I got
an Error dialog with
"Error:CreateProcess(c:\docume~1\someuser\locals~1\temp\rdsddd.tmp)" with
"Access Denied" in the body of the dialog.
The machine in question has a group policy setting and script that removes
Execute permissions from the current user's User Profile folder, but that's
an unusual setup for Win2K. According to others, it's happening on XP SP2
in its native configuration:
The poster of that thread didn't indicate whether or not he was using
Administrator access.
