Other users unable to logon

One of the WinXP PCs on my network is not allowing other users to logon to it
when the screen saver is turned on and the on resume password protection is
enabled. It can only allow the user who was currently logged on or an
administrator to log on.

I am running on a Windows 2000 domain. And have other Windows XP machines
with the same options working fine.

Please assist

Not sure I understand..

- The machine is locking on the display of a screensaver when a user is
logged in and idle for a given amount of time and/or they manually lock it
and walk away..

What the above means is that only that user or and administrative user on
that system can unlock the system - this is the way it was designed. If you
have found a way "around" this - I would be interested to know. This is the
way it has always worked..

Or am I misunderstanding your question?

Hi Shenan,

The logged on user does not have administrative priviledges both as a
network user or as a local user on the machine. When logged onto the machine
or onto the domain and the screen saver comes up, no one else is able to
unlock the machine except the user or an administrator. This is a problem
since this is a shared pc.

Well, I did understand and that is "by design". Once the machine is locked
(either by automatic or manual means) - the only way to unlock it is to have
an administrator of the machine (a user in the local administrators group)
"logon" to logout the current user or have the current user logout or with
the user of a logoff scheduled task/screensaver.

I have not found a way to do this with the windows screensaver.
Instead, we have decided to lock our screens using the Transparent
Screen Lock software. It does not have to be transparent

With this software you can set who is allowed to unlock the screen. We
have a global group in AD with system adminstrators that can unlock
the screen without logging off the user. We select that group in the
program configuration and allow either the currently loggin in user or
members of that group to unlock.
