I am running Windows XP Pro, for some unknown reason my computer now re-boots
on startup. Just before the windows loading screen comes up.
I am going to format and re-install and hope that fixes my problem (unless
someone knows a fix?)
The problem I am having is that all my work is in my profile, which was NOT
password protected (since I am the only user on the computer). When I try to
get into my profile (another HDD as Primary with WinXP, or Recovery Console)
all I get is 'You do not have permission to access this folder'. I have done
everything I know, including copying the folder, no luck. I have tried
Disastery Recovery Utils to try to get the data back, all I get are CRC
errors on that area. Scan disk fails. I have tried Ghosting the drive to
access the data, that also fails on un-known errors.
I have also tried loading up in Safe, Last known, and everything else, it
still re-boots. On a second computer (swapping HDD's) it also re-boots....
If someone could help me please, that would be great.

The information is provided "as is", it is suggested you research for
yourself before you take any advice - you are the one ultimately
responsible for your actions/problems/solutions. Know what you are
getting into before you jump in with both feet.

The old profile was on a NTFS drive, and assuming you didn't use
Encryption, you are just seeing the normal action of file/folder
permissions. The account you are using to access the folder does not have
the same hash/identity as the one that created it - you just need to TAKE
OWNERSHIP of the files.
