Hi all,
I think I have a problem with my 5550 and power in the car. It charges
and is powered OK from the supplied cradle. However, when I use the
ipaq in the car, a use it for Sat Nav, It will not take power from the
car.
I have two power leads from my old 3870 and I get the same symptoms
with both. I've also tried it in 2 different cars and again get the
same symptom.
If I drive with the device switched on and plugged into the lighter
socket it runs off the battery. If I switch the device off it starts
charging. Turn it back on and it stops charging and goes back to
battery.

I tried generic power supplies for car use with my Asus, using the same
sized power connectors, it won't charge. I tried an Asus car supply and it
worked. I even cut back one of the power connectors to ensure good
connection with no joy. Either there is some kind protection built in (some
psu's are switched mode not the normal type) or the plug has some physical
differences which I couldn't see. It wouldn't work with non-OE mains units
either.

It seems that the power cords you are using in the car provide a smaller
voltage. You should check the output voltage of your power cord (it should
be writen somewhere) against the output voltage of the cradle.

Thanks for the suggestions all. Hadn't thought of the power
requirements as I just assumed the old 3870 leads would be OK. I guess
I'll have to look for an adapter for the 5550 instead and try that.
Cheers
