Hello there,

I appreciate that this may be a frequently asked question, please go
easy. Help or even a solution would make me a happy man.

Essentially, I'm getting low fps with HL2/CS:S. Aztec is as low as 20
and that's with this rig:

My PC

AMD XP 2700 (2.2gb)
1.5gb 333mhz ram
Asus a7v333-x 333 FSB
3D radeon 9800 pro
via realtek sound

Here is where I've been asking:

#post1333341095

Any help would be much appreciated.

"As low as 20FPS on Aztec in CS:S" - That doesn't suprise me at all.

1. What 3D card *exactly* do you have?
Who makes it?
how much RAM?
128bit or 256bit bus?
default clocks (memory and cpu)???

2. What resolution and with what AA and AF settings are you running CS:S?

Have you checked your fsb to make sure your memory/ram is at the proper
speed? A fresh install could solve some problem that is left behind even
after a driver cleanupo from the previous card. And check for other
services running in the background.

I used driver cleaner which I would think would make a reinstall
redundant. As for checking for stuff running in the background, what am
I looking for?

Memory speed is set to auto, I'll go double check that.

It was set to auto, it's now set to 333 and still no joy.

Try ctl-alt-del and check the process tab for memory or cpu hogs. Some
driver cleaners don't take everything which is especially bad if an old
nvidia card was previous (you did use the right driver remover?). A clean
install is a nice way to refresh your system (which I do with ghost every
few months) and a good "catch all" fix that saves trying to find obscure
issues.
Your system clock is set to 166? (some nf2 boards defalut to 100 which
clocks the cpu way down, but you will see a slower cpu reported in the bios
and os).
I can't think of any other specific things off the top of my head...

Good luck,
Mike

Situation normal. Aztec is a resource hog of a map. Also the FPS you
get depends alot on the ping time from the server.

Normality will be restored once we work out what normality actually is.

Taking a moment's reflection, Conor mused:

That hasn't been true since the Quake 1 days.

Thats exactly what happened to me before I got adsl.
Had much lower fps on 56k modem.
