I have exhausted all my knowledge, so I'm hoping someone else might have an
idea.
I have a wireless network set up with a SpeedTouch ADSL modem/router. This
has WEP encryption on and is working fine wirelessly with the Desktop PC.
I have just bought a laptop and want it to join the network, accessing the
router for the network, not through the desktop PC.
The laptop is an AMD mobile, but has an embedded Wi-fi adapter - the MiniPCI
version.
If I plug the laptop into the wired network socket on the router everything
is fine - netowkr and internet.
However on wireless, it doesn't work at all. I've given it the SSID, set the
MAC address, entered the WEP key. I've turned off WEP, and got it to see the
network for less than a minute, but can't repeat the success. I've tried it
with the desktop switched on and off. I've authenticated the laptop on the
router.
On the Microsoft site, there is mention that you need to install a MiniPCi
update and sure enough that shows on the Windows Update site, but it will
not install. It downloads, runs the installer and fails every time.
Maybe it just needs that new driver, but
1) I don't know if that is the solution
2) There doesn't appear to be any way to force the driver to install.
