802.11g interoperability

I currently have 802.11b networking, with a Belkin access point and laptop
card. I recently bought the Microsoft 802.11g access point/firewall/router.
Just a week after that, of course, Microsoft announced they were getting out
of the wireless market.

I'm hoping my existing 802.11b Belkin laptop adapter will work with the MS
router. I'd like to find a clearance version of Microsoft's laptop adapter,
but they're still in the higher price range right now. Does anyone know
whether other adapters (D-Link, Belkin, Netgear) will work with the
Microsoft router? Or should I keep looking for a Microsoft card on clearance
somewhere?

As long as the Microsoft access point/router has a mixed mode, ie. 802.11g and 802.11b, then you
should be good to go. My Buffalo WBR-G54 has that as a configurable. Note however, that if your
running in a 802.11g mode, ie. an 802.11g client is connected, and an 802.11b client connects the
whole network reverts back down to an 802.11b mode.

Good point. Well, the purpose is to bring all my PCs (laptops and desktops)
up to G. Currently I have B with two laptops, the other PCs are all wired.
But I'm moving and willing to bet the house I buy won't have
networking...and if the basement is already finished, it'd be a bear to wire
it myself. So I'm planning for the eventuality of most all of the PCs being
G wireless.

The b devices will work fine, but only at the speed of a b device. The nice
thing, the g devices will work much faster and any new b or g devices should
work with no problem. I have three g devices and one b device connected to
my MN-700 and they all work great, all are connected and sharing very nicely
:)

Texas Instrument PCI 1410 wireless LAN
Atheros AR500 1X wireless LAN
Toshiba wireless LAN
and I'm not sure what is in my PDA, but it connects fine too.
