Workgroup Folder Sharing

Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.security_admin (More info?)

Click Start, Run and enter GPEDIT.MSC Go to:

Computer Configuration, Windows Settings, Security Settings, Local Policies, Security Options

In the right pane look for Network Access: Let Everyone permissions apply to anonymous users

You can now assign Everyone permissions to the shared folder (the Everyone group automatically has read access), and it should be accessible to the other computer. If you want to control it down to the user level, then you'll need to create an account on the XP machine. However, you can also deny this account the right to log on locally.
