When using an alternate device (CF card modem with RAS or CF card
ethernet adapter) to connect to a LAN, the WLAN internal adapter will
not work anymore. When activating the green WLAN icon, nothing happens;
no connection or amber led blinking. Although you deactivate the WLAN
icon, it remains on. A soft reset puts it back to deactivated mode.
The only way to correct the problem is to perform a hard reset followed
by a backup restore, including the registry. (Did a lot of hard resets
so far. Those asking if the iPAQ Backup restore operation works fine,
the answer is yes... )
This is an iPAQ h5550, Windows Mobile 2003 with the latest patches
available.

Before you performed the hard reset did you take the battery out for about a
minute, reinsert it, and try using the WIFI again?

You do not have to make a hard reset. Just pull the battery out for a second
and then put it back in. You won't loose you data and WLAN will work again.
