I just bought a Sony KF-50WE620 HDTV and would like to take advantage of the
fact that my 8500 AIW has a DVI output. I wanted to try and hook up my card
straight to the TV's DVI input and use the TV something like a monitor.
When windows starts, then I see the computer on my TV but when I try to
change the resolution away from the 1600 x 1200 that was already set when I
had it on my monitor, the TV goes black. Also it seems that half the screen
seems to be missing as the mouse does not stop on the right border, but
continues on.

Is there something else I should be doing?

You're going to have to change to a resolution that your TV supports, and
that might not be easy to find.

First, get a copy of Powerstrip <http://entechtaiwan.net/util/ps.shtm> then
play with the resolution until you find settings that your TV can live
with.
