The palmone zire 72. I know this is a pocket pc newsgroup, but still,
it's a PDA, so of some relevance.

320x320 gorgeous screen.
voice memos
1.2mp camera that captures stills and video (with audio)
bluetooth
loud speaker
a new intel 312mhz processor
palmOS

I had the zire 71 lately which i used for a couple of months. I really
loved it. My only two complaints about it were addressed above. Namely
the voice memos and the bluetooth connectivity.

This really is looking like some killer PDA. Eventhough i have an ipaq
2215, i think i'm too tempted "rent" the zire 72 from ebay (buy it
with a good case, and then sell it after a month or so when bored with
it), (cool it now, some people spend $10,000s on cars, handhelds cost
pennies compared to cars, they're the only indulgence i care about).

You lost me there.... ;)

Personally, I don't like the looks much and I never got used to using
palmOS (I've used it on a Palm m505), so I'd be more happy with the
new round of devices just around the corner and Windows Mobile 2003
Second Edition which supports VGA screens. And multitasking. So I get
to use Messenger in the background. But that's just me and my usage
pattern of Pocket PCs.

But if this is the device that will make you happy, go out, get one
and be happy.

I'm visiting this newgroup from my regular Palm group, but seriously,
don't criticize Palm OS until you see the latest OS 5.1.8. The reason
is that A LOT has changed since you've used Palm m505 with OS 4.1.
Palm OS now even has a today-like screen like Pocket PC. (See?
Microsoft isn't the only company which steals good ideas from other
companies)

It has many other enhancements too. Multitasking is coming soon with
Palm OS 6 also.

Exactly. To each, their own.

What makes you think I didn't? I just didn't use it for a prolonged
period of time so I am far from an expert, but what I saw didn't make
me want to spend my money on one to do try it for that longer period
of time.

Palm OS 6 might make things more interesting to me. If next to
multitasking they'll support multiple categories for contacts, and
some other things that kept on bothering me, and still aren't fixed.
Again: that's my usage pattern for you, we all seek the device that
fits best with our own wishes.

Hi!

To answer more directly the original question, I have bought a Zire 72,
thinking Palm finally gave birth to a well equipped machine (digital photo,
bluetooth, voice memo, good memory, SD slot, nice screen, etc.).

Let me tell you, this is a cheap looking machine, the battery life is horrible,
and it has *no* universal Palm connector (goodbye peripherals).

No, i've switched to PPC and the more I use it, the more I like it(Ipaq H1940
now but H4150 soon) just because *no conversions* are needed on most files
(what a relief, the world suddenly seems simpler!)
