Recording to DVD ( or any mpeg2 format) appears to be normal
judging by the file size. Attempts to play result in black screen.
Latest drivers and codecs are installed. Recording in .vcr format
is great, both sound and video. Converting a .vcr movie to mpeg2
also results in black screen. Trying to delete any mpeg file causes
program crash.

Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong? Appreciate any
help.

More details please about software and hardware.
Tried another MPEG2 conversion progam?

Example.
I was testing a Digital TV tuner card and was getting a black screen
(everything else seemed OK).
I had directx 9 installed, but after tuning stations and getting sound but
no picture I remembered the VGA card was not DX9 compatible (an old S3
Savage3D AGP card).

Thanks for answering. Setup is:

AIW9600XT; 2.4 P4; W2k; 250gb dedicated (to video) hard drive; DX9
and latest ATI drivers, installed clean.

I have tried all the various direct-to-mpg recording and the ATI
vcr-to-mpeg2 recording. They all result in black screen and
program crash.

I've about given up trying.
Jack.

Try looking for other capture/conversion software. Maybe the capture
software is buggy.
Did you try playing the recorded files in PowerDVD or some other player
software. (they are not all equal.
I can't recommend anything offhand, but maybe googling with your problem
will help.
There are a few forums around with lots of support.

Good luck.
