My 9800pro came with one.
Is there any advantage to using it?
It attaches to the videocard's DVI out.

None. In fact, on some cards, the analog signal on the DVI port,
post-adapter, is worse than on the primary VGA port.

The adapter is for hooking up two CRTs.
