I have a wonderful AIW ATI 9800 Pro and it's been awesome for over a year
now. I'm just curious what this card is equal to in terms of the new cards.
Something like the the X700 Pro? I'm guessing that might be about right. ?

And what is this equal to in the nvidia range of cards? Any info helpful for
my next vid card upgrade. Which will be a while from the looks of things.
Don't see any new games for the PC anytime soon that my current vid/setup
can't handle.

x700 and roughly FX5950 Ultra.

Stick with what you've got or get a Geforce 6600GT if you really need
to spend some money.

I've looked into this. I have a 9800 Pro also, and have been looking for a
PCI-Express card to match it.

The 9800 Pro has an R350 core at 380MHz with a 256bit memory bus at 340MHz;
the X700 has an RV410 core at 500MHz with a 128Bit bus at 500MHz.

Tests from the likes of Anandtech show there's a little give and take
depending on the game, but usually well within 5% - certainly not noticeable
in-game.

a good resource to look at data only, perfect for comparing.

If I had to replace a 9800 Pro with another ATI product I would replace it
with an X800 Pro. But for $350-400 it's not good value for the amount of
performance increase. X800XT and PE are even more pricey. Much the same way
the 9800XT was when I bought my 9800 Pro. At least the X800XT and PE have a
bigger performance jump from the Pro than the 9800 Pro to 9800XT. A
$175-200 X700 Pro is not a worthwhile upgrade from a 9800 Pro. Only
marginally faster in most benches. A 6600GT is the same money and performs
much better than the X700Pro. Probably best bang for the buck. As for me,
I'll stick with my 9800 Pro until the X800XT comes down to the $250 level.
