Sys specs

3.2 P4
Abit IS 7 intel 865PE
1GIG PC3200
ATI 9600XT Cat 5.2 set for performance vert sync off
Win XP Pro
AGP Apature size 128Meg

3D mark 03 of 3850. This sure seems low for this system. Old system was a P4
1.7 with 768meg of pc133 and same vid card scored 3500. Bios detects cpu and
ram correctly. Anything in the bios or driver I should be checking?

3Dmark 03 and 05 are heavily GPU dependant unlike 2001. Your video card is
the limiting factor in this benchmark. I'd be surprised if you didn't see a
nice increase in games.

Friend has a 9600XT on a Barton 3200....gets just over 4000 at stock
settings. So you're not way off.

It's a 12229 here, and that's with old drivers and no tweaking yet (Cat
4.11)! yee ha! <GGGG> A64 3500+, ATI Radeon X800 XT Platinum, 1GB DDR3200
Dual Channel, SB Audigy 2 ZS, WD Raptor SATA 74GB HD. And all this in a box
no bigger than a toaster (Shuttle SN95G5). I'm lovin' it! (c) McDonald's
2004.

I'm thinking it is my video card though. I'm surprised that it isn't higher
though with that 9600XT. It's a pretty decent video card. I wouldn't use
3DMark as a tell-tale sign of how well your system will perform with games.
Your actual games will tell.

Yes, that's good. Basically double what my 9800 Pro @ XT clocking does on my
Barton 3200 (6180).
But then again last summer I paid $175 for a 3month old used 9800 Pro. Yours
is $600 at newegg.

3.0 P4
512Mb PC3200
Abit 9600XT Cat 5.1 default driver settings (500/600)
Win XP Pro
AGP Aperature 64Mb

3dMark 03 is 3808

I know someone who has the following
1.6 P4
512Mb Ram (I don't think its PC3200 either)
Triplex (?) 9600 Pro (425/680)
Win 2000

3DMark is around 3400

SO really the GFX card makes up the majority of the marks/results.

I know. I splurged this time. I have never spent more than $300 on a video
card, and that was once before (Monster 3D). Otherwise it is usually about
$200 is my limit. But for once in my life I can play my games in their
greatest glory.

Can now run Half-Life 2 at 1024x768 at max settings with no lags. 8
rendering pipes and 256 bit memory seems to be the minimum for running
latest direct x9 games at decent resolutions and features set high.

Congrats Jeff - you made the right choice going with the 9800 pro :)
My Specs;
3DMark03=5820
P4 2.8G, FSB800, HT
1G OCZ PC4000
ABIT IC7 Max3,
XP Pro
ATI 9800 Pro, CAT 5.2
IMHO, the 9800 Pro is the best deal out there.

With the 9600XT on HL2 - did you find that at medium settings it was
still a bit unplayable?

Do you know what sort of power supply you have? I am thinking of getting
a 9800 Pro but not sure about my 300w psu

Antec 400w-Toms hardware says to have a 350w
