After PQRemove, logon means logout.

Well, the system seemed to have a nice case of bagle.n, so I ran the PQRemove
tool from Panda AV. Very nicely all the 336 instances of bagle were
purportely gone.

Alas, when I rebooted, the logon screen took the password and promptly
logged me back out.

Fixboot, FixBbr, and a windows repair installation didn't change this sorry
affair.

(No, they hadn't installed SP2. That was next on the list.)

Thanks!

Thanks, I do know how to do that. I'm thinking there might be a better way?

The nasty virus did its nasty job and totally corrupted
the operating system. If a repair install did not work,
you have no choice but to perform a clean install.

That is the penalty one pays for not installing critical
updates and not having a good antivirus program installed
with updated virus definitions.

Bless me Father, for my newest customer has sinned. It had been 12 months
since her last update.

Huh. A couple ideas from another forum, and eureka, all i had to do was
replace userinit.exe.

Might want to see if that Microsoft MVP comes with a rebate and a Dale
Carnegie seminar.
