Hello.

I seem to be having a lot of Half-Life 2 crashes today that I never had
before. I am currently in Entanglement level right now. I already had
like five HL2 crashes with this exact error within an hour:

HALF-LIFE 2: hl2.exe -- Application Error

The instruction at "0x241f94b7" referenced memory at "0x0107f5c0". The
memory could not be "read"...

What's wrong? It was fine last weekend in Nova Prospekt level. I have no
problems with other games like DOOM 3, World of Warcraft, Battlefield
1942, etc. I also did the validation on HL2 cache files as noted on
http://steampowered.com/index.php?area=news&archive=yes&id=351 and didn't
get any messages. I assume that it was OK.

You can see my detailed gaming box specifications on
http://alpha.zimage.com/~ant/antfarm/about/computers.txt ... I have the
latest drivers as well. I wonder if the last Steam update caused this
since I updated it a few days ago.

Thank you in advance. :)

I had another blue screen earlier:

Had another crash. During the memory dump, the comptuer rebooted (not sure why). I used WinDebug to analyze memory.dmp:

UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (7f)
This means a trap occurred in kernel mode, and it's a trap of a kind
that the kernel isn't allowed to have/catch (bound trap) or that
is always instant death (double fault). The first number in the
bugcheck parens is the number of the trap (8 = double fault, etc)
Consult an Intel x86 family manual to learn more about what these
traps are. Here is a *portion* of those codes:
If kv shows a taskGate
use .tss on the part before the colon, then kv.
Else if kv shows a trapframe
use .trap on that value
Else
.trap on the appropriate frame will show where the trap was taken
(on x86, this will be the ebp that goes with the procedure KiTrap)
Endif
kb will then show the corrected stack.
Arguments:
Arg1: 00000008, EXCEPTION_DOUBLE_FAULT
Arg2: 80042000
Arg3: 00000000
Arg4: 00000000

This is interesting. So far, Half-Life 2 hasn't crashed with anisotropic
and FSAA off in ATI Radeon 9800's 3D tab properties. I did leave FSAA 2X
enabled in the game though. So far, so good but it is still early to
conclude this test. My testing continues...
