How to resolve the issue caused by installing 896358?

I believe many users are being affected by this update. If the workaround is
going to edit registry, will it be better that MS provides a special UI so
users don't need to change registry directly?

Change it one way, change it another. If you don't know what you are doing
you are still likely to screw something up!
