Hey all,

Problem: Generic Host for Win32 Error

I recently did a rebuild of my pc. Its a homebuilt that was doing fine with
the 9800 pro (ati). Of course, everything was updated and doing fine. The
only exception this time, is that I used the Via 4-in1 drivers on my Abit
KD7a motherboard and ATi's latest 5.4 drivers and control panel. The last
10 rebuilds, I opted out of loading the Via. I only did it this time in
trying to possibly achieve a higher level pc gaming rig. And all was still
well. I then installed my Ati Remote Wonder and its driver. That is when I
got the errors. So, naturally I uninstalled and the problem did not
resurface.

I was going to try to install it again. I uninstalled the current 5.4's
with Driver Cleaner Pro. I then reloaded the 5.4's again. I then got the
problem only one time, on its first reboot. Nothing seems to be affected,
but Murphy does have his laws :)

I did have both the 9800 pro and the Remote Wonder operating just fine with
the 4.08 drivers. But, I can only seem to find the release notes on Ati's
site, not the drivers themselves.

My question is this. What is most likely the problem that you would think,
and where would I find the 4.08 drivers that I know did not have the
problem?

Any advice is always appreciated.

Thanks all,
SL

previous drivers are there - you just need to look a little harder next
time.

do you have SP2 in?....I had read somewhere that you need SP2 to run the
latest drivers.

You don't *need* it. However, ATi recommends it.

I have SP2 installed. I do that first thing on a rebuild.

I slip streamed SP2 into the files from my XP CD and created a new XP CD
that is up-to-date. Very handy when you're doing a reinstall.
