Problem with new Catalyst 5.4 Profiles

I have a Color Power ATI 9600 Pro 128MB video card.

I recently downloaded and installed the new Catalyst Control Center 5.4 with
integrated driver
posted 4/7/2005.
I cannot get the Profiles Manager to work. Before I tried to create a
profile, when I clicked
on the pull-down bar, what was displayed as a "Profile name " was several
"vertical bars".
I was able to type in a profile name and save it. But when I click on the
pull down bar,
the name is listed as several "vertical bars". When I select this profile,
the correct name is
displayed but the "Delete" and "Details" buttons are grayed out. Also, when
I go to the
"Activate Profile" pull-down, the names are shown as five "square boxes"
with an 'e' between
the second and third box.

Can someone tell me why this is happening or what I am doing wrong.
