iPAQ 4155 to Samsung cell a530 - Verizon internet

Recently I purchased a cable thats connects my 4155 to my
Verizon Samsung SCH-a530s. When connecting to Verizon both
qnc and EN connect, when I try to use IE or email, the
connection icon says I'm connected on the iPAQ, and the
phone shows transmit and receive blocks, however I get the
dreaded "cannot connect" message and nothing happens. This
is the same message I would get if the cable was unplugged.
I have gone through every setting on the iPAQ and phone,
searched the internet and need help badly. My modem settings
are data bits 8, parity none, stop bits 1, flow control
hardware, are these correct. Any impute would be greatly
appreciated.
