I've just had a shuffle-round of video cards. I've just got a Nebula
Digital TV card so swapped my old AIW 8500dvi 64Mb with my daughter's 9600
128Mb, My setup works fineand I'm very impressed with the Nebula card.

However, I can't make the AIW work for my daughter's setup. She's got a
Duron 700MHz with 384Mb RAM, running WinXP SP1. The Card is in ok, and
everything seems to load from the original CD ok. But, there's no Wizard
for setting up the TV and although the graphics drivers are aok, anything
else I try to run gives the same message:

FATAL ERROR: AtiSServ Registry Access Failed to Start Up!

I've tried removing ALL Ati software, shutting down and re-installing
everything, but get no joy. Has anyone any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

TIA

Get a copy of Driver Cleaner, it's a great free utility that does a
great job of completely removing drivers. After downloading and
installing, boot up into safe mode and fire it up.

All traces of that old ATI software need to be removed first before
installing new versions (even though the same Catalyst driver package works
with both the 8500DV and 9600). www.rage3d.com forums are a good source for
help if this and careful reference to the ATI MMC installation procedure (on
ATIs website) doesn't work.

Well I think I've been removing all traces, but how can I be sure. As for
the installation procedure, I was using the original CD which requires
minimal input from me. I've now tried mmc 9.03.0.0 and
wxp-w2k-catalyst-8-121-050322a-022141c.exe but that doesn't seem to solve
the problem.

I think I'll sleep on it and have another crack in the morning.

Bottom line is you cant but if you use the ATI removal utility which is
available on the ATI website that should make a start.
As for the error, I told you the rage 3d forums were a good place to look:

Many thanks Paul, that WAS going to be my next stop after Ati, honest! I've
printed off the cure (network out of action pending the move of this rig
from Living Room to a room of my own), and once I've had a bit of Brekky and
IF Daughter has risen from her pit, I'll give it a go and report back.

Easiest way is to click on 'Run' and type in "dxdiag" (w/o quotes)

Well, I followed the instructions, including the Xp repair installation
and... it didn't work!

So I uninstalled everything ati with the ati utililty - twice!

Re-installed the original AIW software, re-booted, and BINGO! All is fine.

Daughter has analogue TV & 64Mb Graphics, I have Digital TV & 128Mb
Graphics.

What more could I ask for?

Thanks for all your help.
