Multiplayer HL2 problem

For some reason I can't seem to consistently jump up any ledge, hop a
low rail, or get through a window. I'll be right behind someone else and
rarely traverse the obstacle. Got any ideas?

Pull your feet up (i.e. hold down crouch) while you jump.
