Ran the defrag on XP. Many many files remained fragmented. E.g, a 20MB file
has 697 fragments and a 98MB file has 1,482 fragments. Average fragments per
file is 1.86. I have 20GB disk with 3.7GB free space. How can I get my files
to be continuous as MS claims defrag is supposed to?

It's probably not defragging the MFT... You'll need a third party utility if
you want to defrag that. I use:

O&O Software's versatile disk utilities for Windows:

You may also find something in the freeware section of www.snapfiles.com
