Dial-up will never be the same again. For now I have a DSL connection.
Of course the downside is that now when I'm at work on dial-up, I'll be too impatient to bother surfing at all . So I might actually have to get on with some work in the afternoons....

You might want to think about trading in your 8-track player too.
Okay, brain. You don't like me, and I don't like you, but let's get through this thing and then I can continue killing you with beer. -- Homer Simpson.
hey... at least pretend to share my joy of discovery here
Of course the great thing is, the more crap I download the better the value for money - it being a fixed monthly fee.

Over here, I originally got myself a 1.5Mbits connection for about US$15 a month. But due to fierce competition taking place, my ISP upgraded all their customers to 10Mbits and for just US$10 a month.
It sounds almost too good to be true, one might even think that the speed & service is only subpar. But that's not the case at all. I've tested the speed several times over the months, & it has always given me about 1.0MBps - 1.1MBps download (8.0Mbits - 8.8Mbits).
The best thing is that there's no download or upload limit. Porn all day, everyday.

the fastest consumer service i can get here is 512 cable modem (unless i go for the super rip off $80 a month for 512Mb bandwidth service which is 2Mbps or the even more expensive 10Mbps service)
i could get the 100Mbps service if i am in centre of the city where all national trafic is free (but considering we are an island LOL, and they give you piss all international trafic (yeah 512Mb) which most of it will be. so basicly i am damn jelous.
however 256K cable modem beats the pants off a 56K modem any day so i am happy.

I'm pretty sure there's no-one in this country (UK) that offers any service faster than 2Mbs to home users... 512 is plenty fast enough now...
You do realise that I'm paying something like 5x more for 1/20th of the bandwidth you have... Which in total means your deal is 100x better than mine - you lucky, lucky, bastard.
But I'm still happy with what I have... for now...

Can you not get a faster modem? Or is your line just not good enough for anything above 56K? that sucks man..
I noticed I only get about 38K out of my 56K modem if I go thru the DSL splitter thingy instead of going straight into the 'phone socket... (No, I did NOT try to use the modem after connecting w/ DSL, but I got the h/w before the account was active)
