Until recently I had a Hercules Radeon 8500 LE 128 MB video card. This card
was driving one single VGA monitor and a TV, with a cloned desktop on the TV
and theater mode giving full screen video on the TV. The TV was connected
with a composite cable and an S-VHS adapter. This setup worked perfectly.
Then I upgraded to a Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro Atlantis 128 MB. Now I am
having problems with the TV output. When I boot up the computer there is no
picture on the TV (there was with the 8500). When inside Windows I have been
able to force the card to activate the TV using the Catalyst Control Panel
with Catalyst 5.6 drivers. However, the TV goes black again whenever I
reboot. I have tried other versions of Catalyst (including those supplied
with the card) and the old ATI control panel, but only 5.6 and CCC is able
to start the TV at all.
I have tried different composite cables and different S-VHS adapters, to no
avail: They all work perfectly with my old card, but my new card has to
force the TV up.
My current setup _works_, but it is very awkward to force the TV up every
time I wish to use it. I would be grateful if anyone can give a hint that
would
a) make sure that the TV-out stays on even after reboots
or
b) give me an easier (and preferably girlfriend-proof) way to activate
TV-out without messing around in a custom view in CCC.
