Hello all,
Can someone please explain to me the causes of Interent lag?
I am an avid combat flight sim fan and of late my normally high score has been reduced to mediocracy. I am convinced that there is severe lag that is causing this.
The host is always the same. he has a static IP for cable and the lowest I can get him is 250m/s. Others who play are sometimes as bad as 900 m/s. His PC is rather old (500mhz) where mine is rather fast (xp2100+ on RAID 0 ATI 9700 Pro, 1 gig PC2100 on ASUS A7V266 and 8mb/s cable). I get great frame rates (equivalent to the refresh rate) but for some reason it feels laggy. Is it possible that the high latency players are affecting the way my PC is behaving or am I just not as good as I though I was ?
If any one is familiar with the zone (www.zone.com) and could offer some insight into this I would be very appreciative.
On another note, I am thinking of getting 100mb/s Fiber Optic. Does anyone have this and do you think that I would see any real differance with gameing compared to my 8mb/s cable connection (I am in Japan by the way).
latency (ping time) is determined by the time it takes for a "router hop" to respond. if the route your isp determines best to get to a desired server is slowed down for some reason, it will take longer for packets to be routed. this doesnt directly affect bandwidth of large files being transfered but small datagrahms like game updates have the time between them increased, thus lag.
my computer is so fast, it completes an endless loop in less than 4 seconds!
