Hi there folks,

I am new to the Pocket PC world. In fact I have recently purchased my
first. I am just waiting for delivery of my IPAQ 2210(2215). I have been
doing a tonne of reading about what these babies are capable of and I
recently stumbled across an article that was talking about a new product for
the Sony Clie that allows the recording of TV directly onto a memory stick
that is, in turn playable on your CLIE.

Its like Pocket Tivo!
The product is called "PEGA-VR100K"

Well it sounds interesting, but since I have an IPAQ on the way it doesn't
really do much for ME. So I was wondering if any of you folks know of a
similar product, or perhaps have heard about one coming out soon?

thanks!
Rob

We're already doing this/have been doing this using our
desktop PC's to do the encoding. Much more flexible than
a "one trick pony" device such as the one you describe.

See the brighthand forums for lots of info.

Or go here:

http://www.pockettv.com/encoding.html

for some of the basics.

Another option might be the Panasonic DMR-E100 HDD/DVD recorder, it has an
SD slot (and a PC-Card slot for CF etc) and can record to MPEG4 and copy to
SD. I should try it on my E-100 and plyback on my Ipaq 3970 but
haven't...yet...

Hi Trev,

Unfortunately the Panasonic uses the sharp G.726 audio codec. This
codec is not supported by any pocketpc programme, the best you will get is
video with no audio. A few people as well as myself have been trying to do
the same thing for some time with no success.

Regards, Grant

I use snapstream beyond TV www.snapstream.com on my desktop, records and
capture tv shows automatically, I can choose what format and quality
settings, it will even automatically re-encode programs captured at higher
quality settings for use with my pocket pc while I sleep. for example, I
was out last night and missed the Sopranos (I know- hard to believe) but It
automatically recorded it at my default 640 x 480" 512kbs profile and while
I slept re-encoded a second copy at 320" x 240" @ 180 kbs, which I threw on
my sd card before leaving for work, and I now can catch up on the show I
missed while at lunch today.
it is a little pricey, but does everything TiVo can and much more !!!
Great Product !

DOH !

Thanks for the heads up. It would seem sensible to support that audio
codec.. maybe one day ?
