Security Padlock

I don't understand where my security padlock has gone, it is not in the
systray, so how do I know that the site I'm sending and receiving from is a
secure site? How do i get this item. I don't recall it being there for a
long time.......

In Internet Explorer, click on the View menu on the toolbar.
Make sure that Status Bar is checked. Also, if the site you're
viewing starts with https://, it's a secure site.
