I was building a pile of systems for friends and family and it was suggested that I start doing it as a business.
What do you think? the Vancouver market is fairly saturated so I was thinking of advertising in all the smaller towns of the BC interior.

Sounds like a plan. You're right about it being pretty saturated around here, but I know of very little in the interior. You may want to just up the 52x cdrom to a cheap LG or liteon burner as those are pretty standard now and are still hella cheap.
Lemme know if you need some help with it... I've loved fixing/building computers and have toyed with the idea of a business before too. I actually had a small one for a bit, but it was an on the side/cash/through the buy and sell type deal. Good experience though.
Some day I'll be rich and famous for inventing a device that allows you to stab people in the face over the internet.
Oh, and to keep costs down for people, maybe offer linux systems? Linux mandrake pre-installed type deal with openoffice and other essentials? That could be a cool thing too. If all they want is an email/internet system it'd be great.
One thing you'll need is an account with a warehouse... I know there's a good one in richmond near cambie and... shell road is it? I knew a few people who deal with them.

The K7SOM somes bundled with a 1800+ or 2000+ cpu. 3 stores all list it as a 1800+ Duron so idunno.
My plan is to build anything the customer wants. If they want a barebones POS, I'll build it. If they want something to run a small country with, no problem. If they ask my opinion on OS's, I will help them to the best of my ability.
My main goal is to allow small town people to get a computer at big city prices.

If you are going to custom build pc's make sure and use quality parts. I know it's going to cost a bit more, but there will be less chance of component failure. Also, Make sure your customer's know that they don't get free tech support. Good luck with it all. I used to do sell custom built computers. I did quite well, but I didn't want to be a salesman.
