Hello Svend

I am trying to learn how to interpret the Findpart
output because it is really an excellent tool.

For example, I took the following output from my first disk:

------------------------------------------------------------------
Findpart, version 4.41 - for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP.
Copyright Svend Olaf Mikkelsen, 1999-2004.

OS: Windows 5.0.2195 Service Pack 4

Disk: 1 Cylinders: 2202 Heads: 255 Sectors: 63 MB: 17273

-PCyl N ID -----Rel -----Num ---MB -Start CHS- --End CHS-- BS CHS
0 - 07 63 8353737 4078 0 1 1 519 254 63 B OK
0 - 06 8353800 4176900 2039 520 0 1 779 254 63 B OK
0 - 0C 12530700 22844430 11154 780 0 1 2201 254 63 B OK
0 - 07 16707600 18667530 9115 1040 0 1 2201 254 63 BU OK

-----FAT CHS -Size Cl --Root -Good -Rep. Maybe --Bad YYMMDD DataMB
520 0 2 255 32 1024 255 0 0 0 030620 848
780 0 33 11144 8 2 11144 0 0 0 030620 7772

Partitions according to partition tables on first harddisk:

-PCyl N ID -----Rel -----Num ---MB -Start CHS- --End CHS-- BS CHS
0 1*07 63 8353737 4078 0 1 1 519 254 63 OK OK
0 2 16 8353800 4176900 2039 520 0 1 779 254 63 OK OK
0 3 1C 12530700 22844430 11154 780 0 1 2201*254 63 OK OK
------------------------------------------------------------------

Questions:

1- Why Findpart reports true partitions IDs, while the partition
table incorrectly show the last two as hidden ?

2- Findpart found a fourth (no longer used) partition entry within
a few seconds, and that entry is not in the partition table.
How can Findpart find that without scanning the whole disk ?

3- What mean the B and BU results in the BS column ?

Thank you very much,

Rubens

The partitions are marked as hidden in the partition table. The
internals of a hidden/not hidden partition are the same. Windows 2000
may not respect hidden partition types.

Only sectors expected to contain content useful for partition search
are read.

See Joeps reply.

You could also appologize for using the newsgroup as your personal self-promoting
and self-arrogance service.

So now we know what your first apology was worth.

No, poor Folkert, you don´t know anything. But I know there is something the
other newsgroup members think: Will you ever get to be a nice guy ?

If you don´t know, don´t expend your time with me, simply ask them. :)
