This causes very long disk access (2+ minutes) for any
large AVI file that is displayed in the explorer preview
pane, or when right-clicking on an AVI file and selecting
file properties.

You also can't delete the file until the hard drive
stopped spinning.

This only happen with AVI files that use the AVI 2.0
extensions (generated with "compatibility index" turned
off on the AVI Mux)

By design with AVI files. XP really, really, wants to check the
internal indices and rebuild them if corrupted. This causes the
annoying AVI behavior. There is a reg key hack that disables this.
Google for: xp corrupt avi and you will find the hack.
