DoD Source doesn't look much different but it sounds different.
Slight improvements in sound, but it sure aint worth money.
The guns, the hands, the bodys, are all the same looking.
I was hoping Steam would copy MOHAAS and allow a wide variety of
character skins to be used, change from the mandatory format used now
by what weapon you choose. Breaking up that confinement makes it a lot
more funner, especially when you can wear winter-camoflauge in a summer
setting. You know what I'm talking about, wearing that blaze white
uniform in summer, makes it kind of crazy & kooky, much more fun.

you have to remember that in going over to Source
DOD has basically gone back to a being a beta and needs everything doing
again. Somethings will remain the same for now I think while they remake the
maps and add the new physics. It'll be a while before we have a Source
version of DoD with the same polish as the current 1.3 version. I think
they'll roll out an early version with half a dozen maps and maybe by the
end of the year
we'll have something more like a finished product.

How can you tell if nobody apart from the developers and beta testers have
played it.

Yep. Might change with the full release.

What's Steam got to do with it? Steam is a distribution technology. It's
supposed to be relatively authentic, maybe if you could pick from a set
range of uniforms. If you have user skins allowed, it just gets ridiculous
with people running around as Homer Simpson.

Well, what did you expect outside of better GFX, sound and the addition of
physics? They're not going to turn it into BF1942 or whatever, with
vehicles and huge maps, that's never been what DOD is about.
You might have more luck with the Red Orchestra mod for UT2004 if you
haven't tried it.

I agree with a lot of what you said.

I'm tempted to for a lot of reasons.
But if Valve does do themselves in another Hollywood person will take
it from the ones that have it now. IT is owned by Hollywood movie
makers.
It is severely lacking a lot of good things. CounterStrike has been
updated but they still haven't made it so you can lay down in that
game. (How stupid can you be!!)

What did you expect? After all Valve didn't even include some of the High
Definition pack skins and models into HL:Source.

It seems a shame but while Valve is trying to kill the second hand market
with Steam, they try to sell their own old games twice. And this with DoD
and CS not being their own developments in the first place...

What was wrong with all the custom models? Only the user could see his/her
particular models. I had CS customized to the gills. That was part of the
fun. Beats the hell out of two models like the current CS. Can't believe
they haven't gotten any more variety in it yet.
