Moving xp backup files to win7

I have a new win7 system (64bit) that i want to restore my music files from a 32 bit backup of win xp on a external HDD.Do I have to put a copy of xp on my current 1.5 terabyte hdd or is there another way? The system it came from had the main HDD fail. And I don't have access to a second system for xp.

More about moving backup files win7
  1. No.....plug in the drive and copy / paste.

BlacX docking stations are real handy for this
  2. Moved file over...but win7 restore refuses to "find" it.Would renaming it help to get it open to get to the music\files stored within???
I REALLY don't want screw around and make the file unusable.
