It seems such a shame that Bill is relying on WNIC vendors to fill the gap
where the W2K OS is letting us down.
I have a WNIC by INEXQ, being a CRO54g and comes with a supplicant RaConfig
version 1.7.2.0 + driver v 2.2.1.
My idea of WLAN is that the software should load with network services i.e.
as a win2k service, which it doesn't. Nor does it seem to work with WZC,
which is on the Win2K SP4 machine.
Although this software has support for WPA-PSK, I have so far failed to
connect with this enabled. Checking of keys is a bit tedious on the INEXQ
iSWO54t AP and I will have to re-check.
(the key on the AP is shown in 32 separate boxes each with 2 hex digits -
tedious; but on the WNIC client it is in a single field and can be pasted),
My MAIN POINT is that the WLAN should be up and running before any log-in,
so that authorised file sharing can occur as required over the WLAN. The
present out of box setup doesn't do that; nor has Bill been of much help
with ensuring that W2K and WXP will properly work together.
There are many corporates still installing new copies of the W2K and the OS
really should do better than this.
