My daughter wants a digital camera for her birthday and I have seen that
Argos are selling the Canon Powershot A70 for £149.99 reduced from £299.99.
It would probably just be used for the usual holiday/party snaps. Would this
camera be a good buy? I suspect it may be an outdated model, in which case
can anyone recommend a more recent camera for about the same price. It would
need to be a small pocket sized model, ideally with say a 3x optical zoom,
min 2 megapixels and preferably with a protective cover to slide in front to
protect the lens (it would probably be rattling around in her handbag with
all the other junk girls keep in there).
Thanks
Nodge

After a bit more research, I'm thinking now that the Konica Minolta Dimage
X31 at £135 might be a better bet. What do you think?

My favorite websites for camera reviews are, in order, www.dcresource.com,
www.steves-digicams.com, and www.dpreview.com. Dpreview also has a good
forums section. Anyways, from the use you describe it's going to get (thrown
into a girly girl's handbag and used for pictures, not photographs), I think
the X31 fits the job description much better than the canon.

Target in the U.S. has the canon A-75 (3.2 meg pix) on sale for
$240.00. Also look at the Casio QV-R51 its about half the size and a
5.1 meg pix camera, with excellant reviews on sale at Circut City for
$289.00.

Yikes

Take the A75, slightly better than the A70 but both very good cams at very
good prices.

the a 70 takes bloody good daylight pictures, very very sharp and rich
in colour, easy point and shoot mode as well
and it is built to last
