I've heard good and bad things about it. Really the only good I've heard though is how good the game looks.

*Shrug*

Personally, I'm waiting for World of Warcraft. Don't intend to play another MMORPG unless WoW turns out to be a disappointment.

PCGamer and Computer Gaming World both gave FFXI a good review. It was released in the US (for PC, the PS2 version is being released when the PS2 harddrive comes out) back in the Fall. You can also check out some of the other gaming sites like Gamespot or Actiontrip.

I guess the only negative things I heard so far was it's kind of hard to "solo"...but I dont see what the big deal is here, I mean why the fook would you want to "solo" in a mmorpg? The other thing was there's a bit of a language barrier, as alot of asian people play (duh), but again, not a problem really IMO.

I have had the game since it came out in the US. This is my first online rpg that I have played and I think it great. I can't stop playing it. The way the game is setup, it is near impossable to solo. They really made it so that you have to be in a group to get exp, also money can be very hard to make in the game. But after awhile you learn how to make money. If you are willing to spend the time to play this game then I would say buy it, but if you can only play once or twice a week then don't bother buying it. Takes a long time to gain levels when you hit level 40 and above.
