Hi,

in 1998 I bought HL1 and with a patch they gave us TFC.

Played well until then forced us to use steam.

Now I cant play HL multi player anymore neither TFC.

What am I doing wrong ? I have the steam client installed btw.

Steam says I have a duplicated serial number of my HL1, suddenly , the first
time I want to play TFC since steam exist.

They want me to sent them 10$ and my serial number. They are completly
absurd. I registered that serial in 1998 with my email address. Cant they
just ask me by email to confirm a new serial number. Thats weird.

They also want me to buy all the game I had with HL1 , they are going crazy
or what ?

Unfortnately one of the drawbacks about using Steam is that the serial
thing is a much more delicate business
My best guess is that someone else has used a keygen to get a steam
account/free HL1 game
Or you have fallen into the Sierra issue as Sierra sent a large amount
of games on the market where the serial was not unique

You have two options
Go for the spending of the $10 to get your serial or buy a new HL1 copy
These days you can probably get the game below $10

Have you got your HL code registered with Steam?

If you purchase HL, you can play TFC also, it's a free mod. Similarly
you can play deathmatch classic, deathmatch, ricochet, and
most importantly :) counter-strike for free once you have purchased
the original HL.

well I already have the original HL, but it says its a duplicated serial
(which is not !!).

And they are asking 10$ to reset that serial to my account. Absurd !

What's steam you asked?

Steam, is exactly what it was meant to be.

Just some *steam* that was released from a 'valve'.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Correction, it should have been:

Just some *steam* that was released by a 'valve'.

I just had to make it sound right.

That may be the case, but as another poster has pointed out, it appears
someone has stolen your CD key. If it were me, I'd just buy another
licence, but you could write to them explaining your problem - would be
an uphill battle though. You need to prove yourself, they need to
believe you, and will all the keygens out there I reckon you are one of
many. Sorry.

stolen my cd key , just when steam is release, very weird. How could someone
steal my CD key. The first batch of HL1 used 13 numbers. No chance someone
found my CD key. Its a very old game btw. I remembered it asked my name whan
I register the key with valve in 1998. Why cant they just ask me to match
the name with the key. No , they prefer another 10$.

I dont even want to use steam anyway. SO I gave up. They should have let HL1
worked with WON. In 1998 , If I knew Steam was coming, I wouldnt have bought
the game.

They really made a big mistake. Lots of people are starting to complain.

Oh, I am sorry. I just saw some of your other posts in other threads.
I have been trying to give logical, neutral answers to your questions,
but you don't seem to want to listen and would rather be abusive.

Have you written to valve about your problem?

Fact: steam is here, has been for some time, WON is no longer used.

Fact: if you pay just $10, or whatever, you can enjoy playing your game
as you did before. If $10 is too high a price for you to pay for some
entertainment, then don't do it.

Fact: there are some old, won based servers out there without
authentication that you could still use, but good luck amongst the
hackers.

Fact: steam did not steal your CD key, some anonymous turd did.

Fact: if you don't like steam so much, then noone is forcing you to use
it. You know, there are other games out there, man. Some of them are
even good. And they don't use steam. I am sure they even have TFC-like
mods.

Over and out.

I know, and I dont play since steam is out because of that. I wasnt
invistigating until this week-end cause I didnt have time for that.

Its not the 10$, already paid full price in 98, why pay another 10$ because
of their mistakes. I never asked for steam btw, WON was perfect, and that I
was paying for.

Probably not many players :(

> Fact: steam did not steal your CD key, some anonymous turd did.

Fact. I was playing TFC a few hours every week until Steam cames in. I dont
say Steam steal my CD key, but they probably have a serious problem with the
first batch of half-life serials. They probably hope not many of the very
first players still playing Half-Life 1 in multi-player mod.

I tried Quake TFC, I hated it.
