I enjoyed the campaign for MW2, but was left unimpressed by the frantic, arcade style online play. BF3 provides a much more enjoyable multiplayer experience, in my opinion, and was, instead of MW3, what I chose to buy.

It's the same crap that's been going on since mw1 and mw2 , repackaged into a new $60 game when it really should be no more than a $20 dlc for mw2....
I mean, it plays exactly like mw2 , they recycled lots of weapons, animations, models, buildings, textures, sounds, and even the menus from the previous mw games..
The engine is terribly dated, for a AAA 2011 game this is unusual, it looks like a game from 2007.

The singleplayer is boring, 3 hour cliche linear corridor over-the-top Michael bay style with explosions every few seconds to distract you from the poor visuals, the intense moments are either scripted events or cutscenes, and the story is forgettable near the end...
The multiplayer is exactly like mw2 but with a few extra modes, the maps are like little mazes; there are always walls a few meters between you and no open areas, all you do is run run die-> run run shoot die , the spawn system is still broken you spawn with enemies behind you and such, they still have the overpowered killstreaks and perks that give people an advantage over one another, the tactical nuke from mw2 has been replaced with another game ruining killstreak..

What a waste of money and another cash-in for activision , better save your hard earned money for better games like skyrim and BF3.

Then I bought COD: World at War and thought, "Hmm... very similar to the last one, just WW2 themed. Oh well, still fun!"
Then I bought COD: MW2 and thought, "Wow. I just bought the same game 3 times. Not as fun as the original."
Then they started advertising Black Ops and I thought, "There is no way in he*ll I'm buying the same game 4 times." Now COD: MW3 is out and there's no way I'm spending any $$$ on it.

"We believe the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is the biggest entertainment launch of all time in any medium, and we achieved this record with sales from only two territories..."

I love it when game companies (and the entertainment industry as a whole) use piracy as the scapegoat for epic failed games (or movies, etc.) when it is simply that companies fail to provide anything noteworthy to spend money on; just because someone pirated something doesn't mean they were actually going to really buy it. Avatar for movies and BF3/MW3 for games are perfect examples of the fallacy that piracy is absolutely ruining the entertainment industry.

In speaking for movies go look at how many movies in the last 5 years sit in the top 10 of the top-grossing movies of all time - a chart that has been established for well since the 70s. While I'm sure piracy puts some dent on overall revenue...when I hear stories such as this one it raises some serious doubt

Skyrim's sitting at 95/100 though i know this will change, possibly drop as more critics review it, like BF3 did.
CoD MW3 gets 82/100 and user score of 1.8/10. This will change too.
But imagine. People are buying the game, then trolling it on metacritic. I don't get it.

As someone else said, you're equating shipping and selling. Additionally, i believe Activision has launched MW3 for $60 across platforms worldwide, while EA sells at country specific prices.
So, for example, while you folks in the US bought BF3 for $60 for the PC/Xbox/PS, we in India could pick up the PC limited ed for $30. Consoles ppl still have to buy it for $60.
That'll make a difference to their total sales in terms of cash too.

I remember reading that BF3 sold 5 million copies some time back, so it's not very far behind this game in terms of units. Or maybe it is, 1.5 million is no small number after all.

BF3 sold some 5 millions during first week. 10 millions were shipped to customers and retailers, and those supplies are dwindling to nothing these days.
Also sale numbers of both include day one sales and preorders, and for MW3 predictions were of 9 million preorders and they obviously failed to reach that number, while BF3 surpassed predicted 3-3.5 millions. If the previous trend of BF games having much steeper curve of sales numbers and CoD having rather flat after first 2-3 weeks, it's not unreasonable to expect in 6 months to see BF3 being ahead of MW3 in sales numbers.

MW3? Not going to buy that as a more serious PC gamer.
Still lack of functional dedicated servers (which was promised in the forum last year).
Some perks seem awfully strong, like assassin, especially in the specialist perk set.
Quite a few guns just don't have enough recoil (namely ACR6.8, how could a rifle shoots 6.8mm rounds at around 700rpm have no recoil?)
Lovely matching making system yet again, putting players straight back into the same game after quitting multiple times.
------------------------------------------------
And best of all, if they did patch MW2 up, it would have played almost exactly the same, but no, refuse to bother. Why? another $60 and yet extra DLCs to add stuffs that were already developed but cut-back for extra $15 DLC.

Your argument that "it doesn't affect they're bottom line because the pirate probably wouldn't have bought it in the first place" is, in essence, true but growing up I learned rich people have more stuff than poor people. While they are great games, I don't get why people want to spend there money on a game that doesn't even have vehicles. It's 2011, seriously, can't they put vehicles in multiplayer? Seriously? MW3 is basically an expansion pack.

Just so everyone knows, BF3 Team death match, "FEELS like COD", so if you buy BF3, you can choose conquest, get vehicles, jets, tanks, heli's, jeeps, ect. ect. and play that.... Every modern warfare game has had the above problems since MW2, and every problem sans no dedicated servers since MW1.

Every single one of their guns on that game have a serious lack of recoil and spread, you can take any pistol and dump the clip at a speed rivaling that of the Rifles LMGs and SMGs and the patter is in a lowercase l shape. all the guns save the shotgun have the same basic pattern as well.

Sniper rifles are used purely for "quickscope" and never-mind that their 18"+ long barrels are their Achilles heels when it comes to CQB ( it's like the difference between using a survival knife or a claymore for an arms length fight. ) and the maps are just too small for them to ever be a viable option.

Concentrate more on weapon selection and usage? Are you that daft?

An example:
Hmm letssee her Caspian Border. Gonna use the A-91, and ACOG then. . . Wonder how many people are on here. Ok 24. That means we'll have armor and aircraft. Damn. Noone else is going engineer in my squad. Alright. Should I get AT mines or the repair tool? Stinger or SMAW? Better use the extra explosives spec. Oh sweet the recon has sprint! Ah and he'll use the SOFLAM, Javelin time!

Meanwhile In Modern Warfare:

Ok, "nuketown" I'll just use my slight of hand and.... hardline. Yea, ACR and red dot, adn I'll make my redot say "newbs go here" hur hur. I'm gonna make so many people mad when I get killcam!

Wow... Are you rich?

In a world where it's "WHO" you know and not "WHAT" you know or "HOW HARD YOU WORK", then I think poor people pirating because they can't afford something is different then rich people not paying because they don't wan't to. Lot of hard working "poor" people in this world who struggle just to make it. I know a lot of people who worked their whole lives trying there hardest and still end up loosing there job or there houses due to different circumstances. My outlook on rich people is that most of them just don't have the perspective to understand the complexities of the world, and are to close minded and greedy to care about other people, or they are just spoiled lil brats who grew up with everything handed to them on a silver platter. Personally, I don't believe in pirating, but I understand why people do it.
