I can not open my external hard disc in my laptop

Hello,
i plug in my external hard disc in my laptop, aftter few miniutes the message came out fomate the hard disc YES or NO, so many movies , software inside my hard disc plz any aone help me how to ssolve the proplem

Ok what probably happened is that the root directory has been ereased. You can try using some data recovery programs to recover some raw data but i must tell you your prognosis is not looking good. Before we get ahead of ourselves does this external hard drive work with other comps.
