As far as sound goes, believe it or not, Stargate is amazing. It's a two sided DVD and really rocks for surround sound. That sand storm is wicked...

I don't think people with VCR's can really comment on any of this. I'm shocked that anyone would even buy one nowadays.

I've got a fantastic job (hopefully still there on Monday), but I'm not hiring at present since the finance industry is going a little slow right now...

Give me a call in 6 months time or so!

Saving Private Ryan definately, the beginning scene is the best (best D-Day scene in a movie EVER)

It makes you turn your head and look around when the bullets fly by. Almost trying to dodge the bullets.

The car chase(s) in Ronin were fantastic on my 42" plasma. It was _lot_ of money at the time, but I'm really glad I got it.

Yeah your probably right, I haven't seen it on DVD with a decent sound system, only on Digital TV but was amazed at the effects from the weedy TV sound. Can only imagine what it would be like on DVD.

Mercantilism , that´s why!
The Lucas Dude is waiting for the release of Star Wars 3 , just to even think about it!

Why should you learn from your mistakes?
Learn from other´s! It´s cheaper and less painfull! :-D

I saw an interview and he said that he'll do it after Episode iii since he won't have time until then. He had something special planned for the DVD release so he needs time to prepare them.

Besides that, selling the vhs for a few years will make him some cash. Then he'll release the (I'm guessing) 6 episode collectors edition, then he'll release the HDTV version, then he'll release the DVD version, then he'll release the DVD special edition, and then he'll release....

in other words, by the time they will have the Episode 1 DVD out, there will be something newer and better besides DVD...... I mean, episode 2 isn't even coming out for another year....

What about Event Horizon? The ship fly by's in that will make and decent home system pound. Low rumble for starships, its great!

DVD is gonna be around for a long time. I wouldn't worry too much about that. The capabilities of DVD work hand in hand with HDTV, and HDTV won't become standard until 2004-2005.

Then watch Lost in Space. Event Horizon wasn't a very good movie. My wife actually walked out on it. I thought it was mildly entertaining, but I wouldn't waste any time watching it again.

one of the first dvd's i purchased was quidam by the circue du soleil. coupled with a good tv screen and digital surround sound, it is an unbelieveable experience to watch. to see them live is one thing, but watching quidam (which was filmed live in amsterdam) on dvd is like you are there in the audience as well

Ronin is brilliant on DVD. The car chase is one of the best I have ever seen in a film because it is so real ! Even my wife was impressed. The sound is very well done, especially where the camera is in front of the car nearly on the ground, and when they're going through the tunnel.

Twister
Try the start when the storm brings in the title. Turn it up and it really wraps around your head and is sooo throaty when it thunders. I used to worship my (now 10 year old) Kenwood Pro-Logic, but got the Yamaha DSP-A5 and you can see (and hear) where those years of R&D have gone!

Dan

P.S. anyone know a good non-tall centre speaker in the £150 - £250 market. It has to fit on a shelf on my Hifi rack as my wife hates the look of the current cheapy Sony one on top of the telly. Must be less than 120mm high (I know, I know)

Sweet, I thought I'd have to wait all those years. I've been boycotting the VHS version. It could serve no justice...
