Hi all,
I may be missing something obvious here.. but..
When I run "Dedicated Server", all the options in
the Start Dedicated Server dialog box are editable,
except for the Map drop-down list. This is shown
grayed out. For example, if I select the game
Day of Defeat, dod_flash is shown as the map,
but I can't change this.
How can I select a map when running a
dedicated server?

DoD that'll be the old HL1 Mod right?
The couple of times I have started a HL1 DM server everythikng was ok
(I could select maps etc)
I can check DoD later tonight
Do you often host games eg once a week (or month) or just ocasionally?
Valve has an independent dedicated server which does not require Steam
or a cd-key for creating an account
Worth considering
I am using the source dedicated server (srcds)
I have just a minor batch file and it starts up within seconds
As a bonus and can start a steam client on the same box

Yup, but it behaves the same way
for Half-Life 1, Opposing Force, etc.
Someone on the Steampowered
forums said that I could only select
the map _within_ the game. But
I thought the whole point of a dedicated
server was that it was "fire and forget", so
to speak. I'll check it out more later.

The HLDS is what you're searching for
Plain batchfile and you can start the damn thing (service) when the
serverOS starts
- that is unattended
- that is no user action required in the process of startind
- that is very nice :-)
