Hi Clayton,
* Do you have any firewall or antivirus application running on your
computer?
* Do you see any error message when you attempt to synchronize?
* What type of connection are you trying to establish? (USB, infrared etc.)

'Just norton' is a broad term.. there's
Norton Antivirus, Norton Personal Firewall, Norton Internet Security,
etc..
It might help you to turn Norton off completely by right-clicking
it's icon in your system tray (on the lower right next to the clock)
and also checking to see whether or not you have other programs
that try to use your COM ports, such as software for mobile phone,
Serial mice, scanners, infrared adapters, etc..
as these can interfere with ActiveSync trying to determine what
port is available.
Then there's your computer's BIOS settings, you could go there
to see whether or not your serial ports are disabled or not
or have been reserved for IRDA.

ok norton system works 2004
com ports are on in the bios i have tried changing com ports one at a time
to com1 com 2 ect
i have no other serial devices installed currently
not sure how norton antivirus would interfere with a serial device but i
have seen stranger things happen so i will try that to
active sync tells me that what ever ports i have enabled in the bios are
available
it just can't find anything attached to them

I've found an older thread that was about problems
with serial connections in windows XP, with the slight
difference that it was aimed at an iPAQ 3600 series..
it spoke of a fix/program that had to be run to make
an initial sync via ActiveSybnc 3.x possible.
you can find this thread here:

Mind the word wrap.. I wanted to use TinyURL here
but it appears they have some problems at the moment..
The fix mentioned in the archive might or might not
work.. I do not know, I connect through USB myself.
Anyone else have a better idea about the Symbol?
