I performed the infamous hardware upgrade, on an existing
XP Pro Installation, to the Intel P4 3.2 Socket 775 W/1MB
L2Cache on a Abit Duramax Motherboard including new DDR2
memory.
Essentially everything is fine until I work with the new
audio sub system, which then causes XP pro to request the
KS.SYS file form the XP Sp1 disk. Regardless of the
source of this file, XP crashes, blue screens, with stop
message leading off with 0x0000007e, and apparently the
actually problem here, according to the article is the
stream.sys file and hyperthreading technology.
I've gotten as far as getting the hotfix, which is
provides the "necessary" stream.sys file, however my
problem is not resolved, and I am still waiting for
additional feedback from MS support tech.
If anyone out there is working with this, and can provide
some insight, I would greatly appreciate it.
