My old CRT monitor just fried, and I purchased a new
Samsung 17" LCD monitor. But when booting up, my new
monitor will come up with a small flooting window
stating "not optimum mode, recommended mode: 1280 X 1024
60 Hz. And I can't go any further. I have a ATI Radeon
9600SE AGP card, and I don't remeber what the resolution
was set at before my old monitor went on the fritz.
Any advise would be most helpful, because at this point
I'm stuck.

Use F8 at Startup and go into Safe Mode. Set the resolution in that. I
don't believe LCD monitors support a refresh rate higher than 60Hz.
