Preview in Display mode

Did Movie Maker work in display mode "Primary Surface" Or he need "Overlay surface to work ??
My problem is the following: I have a capture card who work either in the both display mode "Primary and Overlay surface"and was working perfectly in Overlay.Recently i was obliged to change my motherboard and have now as VGA Card the S3 GRAPHIC PRO SAVAGE DDR Built in.I can no more configure my capture card to work in Overlay surface mode.And I get a problem to preview when i go to recording on the tuner mode .By the way if I go recording from my Webcam it work and i have the preview.
