I have a Sharp VL-E685 8mm Viewcam and video capture is working on my
All-In-Wonder Rage 128. I can capture video in both MovieMaker and with the
software provided (MGI VideoWave II) - although it can be no faster than 30
frames.
I have tried aux, line in, etc. but there is no sound.
I am connected from the camcorder to a ATI 'block' that has a yellow, white
and red connector as well as a roundmini-DIN (I believe) connector. From my
camcorder the connector only has a yellow and white input (I didn't think
there would be a problem as the yellow is video and white audio). I know
this is an older program and card but it worked well on another computer -
just no sound when I installed and tried to use it in Windows XP.
Any ideas? Much appreciated.

I saw some video capture cards (AIW ATI is one of those) require an external
cable - just for sound. The cable in question should come with the capture
card and intended to be hooked up with one end to your video capture card
and with the other into your sound card.
As far as I know AIW also allows TV capture. So if you didn't connect AIW
card with your sound card with that external cable then you won't get sound
on your TV recordings either.
So do you have those two cards connected with an external cable?

Click on the little silver speaker in the SysTray.
Click on Options, Properties, Recording.
Ensure Line In is NOT set to Mute.
