I have posted this message in the PowerPoint newsgroup as
well.
I used to have a PowerPoint presentation that worked. The
inserted avi videos could be seen on all three computers
that I have available.
I was about to Pack and Go the presentation to CDs for
distribution, but I thought it best to upgrade my Office
2003 with the latest upgrades. This included Directx9.0c.
The avi videos are not showing... only the sound.
Yes, I checked and added the video codecs, read and
followed the Myers article, Sonia's great web site, and
the PPTools instructional web site. I checked the gpot
software and downloaded and installed the recommended
codecs.
Still no video.
I re-formated my laptop with WinXP pro and then the
Office 2003 group and checked the presentation.
It works! However I see residual lines on the video as it
shows when I turned off the video accelerator.
Then I did something dumb... I upgraded DirectX again.
No video.
The knowledge base for Directx and Powerpoint do not show
a conflict, or at least any discussion of it.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any workarounds? I
would hate to have to reformat all my computers just for
this presentation!

Thanks
Ran

Some more information might help:

Does the video in question play in Windows Media Player 9 ? If not, does it
play in

the old media player
"C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\mplayer2.exe"

or Media Player Classic
http://sourceforge.net/project/sho [...] e_id=84358

If it plays in media players but does not show up in Powerpoint: do other
videos show up ?

As a last resort you can convert this video to WMV format using Windows
Media Encoder
