capture from sony trv27 using usb cable

Other than being slower, is there a quality difference in capturing video
from the above camcorder to my computer using usb and firewire? This camera
uses mini dv tapes.

Sorry for the rookie question. I'm just getting my hands dirty and it's all
a little overwhelming. Trying to use videohelp.com and it helps.
